Day 1: Arrival in Paro → Transfer to Thimphu

Drive: 1 hour

Arrive in Paro, where the Himalayan views Everest included on clear days welcome you to Bhutan. After landing at the narrow Paro valley airstrip, meet your Bhutanese guide and transfer to Thimphu.

Afternoon sightseeing in Thimphu includes:

  • Memorial Chorten

  • Changangkha Lhakhang

  • Zangtopelri Lhakhang

  • Drubthob Nunnery

  • Takin Preserve

  • Handmade paper factory

  • School of Arts & Crafts (13 traditional arts)

  • Local gold/silver workshop & handicraft center

  • Tashichho Dzong (King’s administrative building)

Overnight in Thimphu

 

Day 2: Thimphu → Cheri Gompa Excursion

Drive: 20 minutes | Hike: 30–45 minutes ascent

Drive to the northern valley and begin a pleasant walk through paddy fields and woodland towards Cheri Gompa. Cross a traditional cantilever bridge and ascend to the monastery founded in 1620 by Shabdrung, Bhutan’s first ruler. Visit the courtyard and inner shrines.

Return to Thimphu. In the late afternoon, visit the vibrant Weekend Market, a lively showcase of Bhutanese daily life.

Day 3: Thimphu → Paro & Local Sightseeing

Drive: 1 hour

After breakfast, drive back to Paro. Before entering the valley, continue up to Chele La Pass (3,900m), offering wide Himalayan views, including peaks Gangkar Puensum (7,546m) and Jomolhari (7,314m). Enjoy a short walk along the cool ridgeline.

On the return, optional short hike (approx. 1 hour total) to Dzongdrakha Monastery, often called the “mini Tiger’s Nest.” Visit the main temple and enjoy valley views.

Time permitting, visit:

  • Dungtse Lhakhang

  • Rinpung Dzong

Day 4: Tiger’s Nest Hike

Hike: 4–5 hours round trip

Drive to Ramthangkha and begin the iconic hike to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest). Optional pony ride available to the halfway viewpoint (extra USD 12). Explore the monastery dramatically perched on the cliffside.

Afternoon visits:

  • Kyichu Lhakhang (one of Bhutan’s oldest temples)

  • Ta Dzong National Museum

  • Rinpung Dzong

Day 5: Departure

Transfer to Paro Airport for your flight.
